University District and Truman Homes announce new residential rental project
University District and Truman Homes have announced construction of a new residential purpose-built rental offering in University District, called Academy.
The project is expected to offer 222 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units ranging from 650 to 900 sq. ft. Academy will feature a range of amenities, including a residents’ lounge, pet spa, fitness centre and bike storage room. This new addition marks a milestone in the continued growth of University District.
Novy Cheema, president and CEO of University of Calgary Properties Group, said, “University District continues to evolve as a dynamic and vibrant community. With the addition of Academy, we are continuing to expand our rental portfolio in the community. Our continued partnership with Truman marks an important step forward in shaping a thriving and connected neighbourhood.”
Construction is now underway on the new development located at the corner of Kovitz Avenue and McLaurin Street N.W., and residents are anticipated to take possession by early 2027.

University District continues to establish itself as one of Calgary’s most desirable mixed-use communities. With its thoughtfully planned retail, dining, wellness and service offerings, the neighbourhood provides a vibrant lifestyle for residents and visitors alike.
Academy will be Truman’s fourth residential offering in University District, with the previous three projects, Esquire, Maple, and Noble now fully sold out.
