Four things to look forward to at this year’s UFlourish
The perfect time to check in and take time for yourself, UFlourish is a series of events, activities and workshops that build personal resilience and positive mental health at UCalgary, and it’s just around the corner — happening Oct. 15 to 18.
Open to students, staff and faculty, these four days of activities and workshops are aimed to help the UCalgary community build coping skills and increase campus connections, to elevate their ability to thrive all year long. We’ve highlighted several events we’re particularly excited about, but be sure to check out our robust calendar of events, here.
Equip yourself with resources and supports at our Wellness Fair
UFlourish’s flagship event, the Wellness Fair is a one-stop-shop to learn about campus and community resources available to you, as well as participate in a variety of activities, designed to help you flourish. From DIY self-care activities to pet therapy and Active Living games, the fair is the place to grow your wellness toolkit and connect with peers.
Develop climate change resilience in an age of uncertainty
It’s hard to participate in conversation and action around climate change when it can cause feelings of anger, anxiety or grief. That’s why it’s important to step up our own self-care and resilience. Drawn into the Climate Conversation tackles this dilemma, with stories and shared activities. You can also catch the Office of Sustainability’s booth, Coping with an Uncertain Horizon, at the Wellness Fair, where you can share and connect with others around the topic.
Move your career forward with workshops from Human Resources at UCalgary
This year, UCalgary staff and faculty have the opportunity to participate in a number of events and workshops aimed at sharing knowledge and tools to enhance our working lives. In addition to invaluable teachings on developing interpersonal communication skills, participants also have the opportunity to learn about ii’ taa’poh’to’p, the Indigenous Strategy for a deeper understanding of diverse Indigenous cultures in Canada.
Engage in events offered across faculties
This year, Nursing and Schulich School of Engineering are collaborating with UFlourish to bring staff, students and faculty events and activities to grow and connect with others. Led by the Faculty of Nursing, Imposter Syndrome: Self-Doubt vs. Self-Compassion is a workshop aimed at fostering more compassion, personally and professionally.
Meanwhile, Engineering will get attendees up off their feet with rounds of mini-golf. Participants will have the chance to activate their bodies and minds further with additional surprise challenges at each hole.
So how can you take part? Share this article and the UFlourish website with friends and colleagues at UCalgary, sign up for events, attend the Wellness Fair, and submit to @ucalgary’s Instagram account during UFlourish with tips on how you flourish during the academic year for a chance to win a $50 credit to the campus bookstore.

The University of Calgary’s Campus Mental Health Strategy is a bold commitment to the importance of mental health and well-being of our university family. Our vision is to be a community where we care for each other, learn and talk about mental health and well-being, receive support as needed, and individually and collectively realize our full potential. Find support and connect to the strategy.
