Featured McCaig Institute Trainee: Danielle Whittier
“It was a mix of different problems and cool experiences. But I really wanted to focus on something more meaningful.” So she went back to school.
An avid athlete, Danielle decided to combine her engineering background with her curiosity of what keeps bones and joints healthy. As a PhD student in Steven Boyd’s lab, she studies how bone microarchitecture can predict who is likely to get a hip fracture.
Danielle is also interested in the business side of biomedical engineering. “My initial plan was to get my master’s degree and run a great start-up in Calgary. But I’ve found that I have a passion for research,” she says. “I could see myself being in academia and really driving innovation from the inside out.”
