Dr. Melinda Davis named associate dean, Postgraduate Medical Education
The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Melinda Davis, MD, as the new associate dean, Postgraduate Medical Education. The appointment was effective Jan. 1, 2023.
Dr. Davis takes over the role previously held by Dr. Lisa Welikovitch, MD, who now serves as the senior associate dean, Education. Dr. Davis received her Bachelor of Medicine and completed anesthesiology training at the University of Newcastle in Australia. She completed a subspecialty neuroanesthesia fellowship at the University of Calgary and has been an anesthesiologist at the Foothills Medical Centre since 2005.
Dr. Davis is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and served as director of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Master Teacher program. She has taught various levels of medical education from undergraduate to faculty development, and received several teaching awards including the Jones Award for Teaching Excellence in Undergraduate Medical Education and the Certificate of Merit from the Canadian Association of Medical Education.
Her research interests include career choice and professional identity development. She created and led the Career Exploration Program within UME, which includes career coaching and career development with the guidance of a preceptor.
Dr. Davis was the program director of the Anesthesiology Residency Program. She is also a member of UME’s Reimagining Medical Education Committee, which is redesigning CSM’s undergraduate medical school curriculum.
