When are applications open? When should I apply?

Applications for undergraduate programs beginning Fall 2022 will be accepted from October 1, 2021 to March 1, 2022. The Admissions Office always recommends that students apply as early as they can. As programs are competitive and admission is not guaranteed, this will give you the best chance of receiving an offer. For more information, please click here.

We can start reviewing your application as soon as we receive your application form, fee, and all of your required documents. If you are an international student (or you have attended an international institution), obtaining your transcript may take some time. It might be a good idea to start reaching out to those institutions early in the process in order to meet our deadlines. 

Which courses will be used to calculate my average?

For high school applicants, we calculate your average using the five courses required for your program at the grade 11 or grade 12 level. If both grade 11 and 12 marks are available in the same subject, your grade 12 mark will be used.

For transfer applicants, we calculate your average using your most recent post-secondary coursework, to a maximum of 30 units (both University of Calgary courses and/or academic post-secondary courses taken at other institutions), unless otherwise specified by the Faculty.

What is the competitive admission average for my program? 

University of Calgary does not publish specific admission averages because they vary annually based on the applicant pool and may change throughout the admission cycle. The estimated competitive admission averages are highlighted for each program within our Explore Programs webpages, or through our Admissions Requirements widget. Students are encouraged to use these estimates when selecting programs. We recommend that you select the program you are most interested in as your first choice and select a second choice that you are interested in for which you are at or above the estimated competitive admission average. You can change your program choices until March 1, 2022.

Please note that, if you change your program choice for a program you were already admitted to, your offer of admission will be cancelled (including if you switch your program between first and second choice or the other way around).

How do I apply as a transfer student?

We automatically determine your status based on the number of post-secondary courses you have completed. Students who have completed twelve or more units (usually about four half year courses) by the end of the Fall 2021 term will be evaluated as a transfer student for Fall 2022. If you have completed fewer than twelve units by the end of the Fall term, you will be evaluated based on your high school grades.

I have applied – what now?

Step one: Watch your e-mail. After you apply, we'll start communicating with you. Check your inbox for information about timelines, transcripts, and next steps. Remember to check your junk folder, too!

Step two: Check your status by logging into your My UCalgary Student Centre. From here, you will find details and updates about your application status, required documents, and deadlines specific to your application.

Step three: Submit your documents. If you have attended a high school or post-secondary institution in Alberta that participates in ApplyAlberta, the University of Calgary can obtain your transcripts on your behalf. There is no need to send them to us.

If you attended a school outside Alberta, you can upload an unofficial transcript to your My UCalgary Student Centre so that we can begin our evaluation. For information about submitting documents, click here.

Step four: Apply for scholarships and awards. You don't need to wait for an offer of admission to complete our entrance awards applications. To learn more, click here.

What are the fees?
