The Cy Frank Trainee Award in Nutrition for Bone, Joint and Muscle Health

This award was established through an anonymous donation to honour the late Dr. Cy Frank and his impact on provincial, national and international health care and musculoskeletal research.  This award is currently available to one trainee who works in the area of environmental contaminants in the area of nutrition as it relates to bone, joint and muscle health.

Cumming School of Medicine Post-doctoral Fellowship Competition

The McCaig Education Committee will be accepting applications for the Cumming School of Medicine Post Doctoral Fellowship (CSM PDF) competition on an ongoing basis until 2 remaining positions are filled. The competition provides funding, matched by the applicants supervisor, for two years of a post doctoral fellowship. The supervisor must be a full member of the McCaig Institute who is a full-time, primary CSM faculty member.

Linda Marchuk Memorial Graduate Scholarship

This scholarship honours Linda Marchuk and her commitment to the advancement of science to better people’s lives. For most of her adult career, Linda worked in the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health at the Cumming School of Medicine as a lab Manager/technician. This scholarship will support the pursuit of research and innovation within the McCaig Institute and continue Linda’s legacy of mentoring her “kids."

Special Training Opportunities Fund

The Special Training Opportunities fund provides funding to McCaig Institute trainees and technical staff to pursue unique training opportunities (not conferences) related to their academic goals and professional development. Examples of special training include: collaborating with trainees from other departments or faculties to create technical equipment; attending a workshop/course focused on a particular technique or piece of equipment; arranging for a world-class expert to visit Calgary and teach a short course on their area of specialization. Only one person per lab is eligible to attend each opportunity. Trainees applying for this type of financial aid are also encouraged to apply for the various travel funds offered throughout UCalgary.

The McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health offers opportunities for undergraduate students to pursue to gain valuable research experience during a summer studentship. 

Summer 2022 summer studentship application portal now open:

The University of Calgary’s summer studentship application portal for summer 2022 is now open.

  • The student submission deadline is 4pm (MT) on Friday, February 4, 2022.
  • The supervisor submission deadline is 4pm (MT) on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Students who are not currently attending the University of Calgary are able to apply however, they must apply for a UCIT account first before gaining access to the portal.


The R.R Singleton Summer Studentship

The R. R. Singleton Summer Studentship Awards are the result of a generous donation from Mr. Richard Singleton and the late Mrs. Linda Singleton. This competitive internal award is intended to provide stipend support to undergraduate students pursuing a summer research position.

 

The Biomedical Engineering Summer Studentship

BME Calgary has partnered to offer summer studentships for undergraduate students to work on biomedical engineering-related projects with researchers in a number of different partners groups across campus (up to 17 studentships available). Preference will be given to students in the BMES program, but this is open to all undergraduates.

Alberta Spine Foundation Summer Studentships

Alberta Spine Foundation, through a generous donation, is partnering with the McCaig Institute to fund up to two summer students. The funding is available to all McCaig Institute members and/or members of orthopedic surgery with a spine-related research project for a summer student. Summer students are asked to fill out the application form and provide supporting documents as one sing pdf file (application found here).

Note: letter of reference must come directly from the supervisor via email) to mccaig@ucalgary.ca for review by Monday, February 28th, 2022 at 5:00pm.
