Research interests

Our research involves the use of technology (robotics, non-invasive brain stimulation, neuroimaging) to better understand the challenges associated with impairments of movement and sensation following stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury. We have developed a number of assessment tools to quantify upper extremity function using robotics. We often combine these assessments with non-invasive brain stimulation and neuroimaging to better understand the underlying brain dysfunction that leads to abnormal movement and sensation. In addition to our work developing better assessment tools for neurorehabilitation, we currently employ several approaches to improve upper and lower extremity mobility following neurologic injury in clinical trials including aerobic exercise, pharmacotherapy, non-invasive brain stimulation and robotics. Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of those with stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury through the use of more personalized rehabilitation strategies.
